Another high-speed rail starts! Kunming is only two hours away from Chongqing!

On December 20, the construction of Yunnan section of Chongqing Kunming high speed railway, an important part of Beijing Kunming high speed railway, was officially started. After completion, the period from Kunming to Chongqing and Chengdu will be reduced from 5 to 6 hours to 2 hours.

Beijing Kunming Expressway

Chongqing Kunming high speed railway is an important project of national medium and long-term and 13th five year plan railway network planning, and also a national key project of "one hundred traffic poverty alleviation projects". It is led from Chongqing West Railway Station, passing through Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces and cities, with a total length of 699 kilometers and a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour.

Among them, Yunnan section is 388.6km, passing through Zhaotong City and Qujing City of Yunnan Province, and finally to Kunming south station, with 11 stations in total. After connecting with the national road network, it will form a backbone channel between Yunnan, northwest, North China and other places, which can directly reach Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, forming another fast railway channel from Beijing to Kunming.

Construction difficulty should not be underestimated

Chongqing Kunming High Speed Railway climbed from Sichuan basin to Yunnan Guizhou Plateau, with huge topographic relief, complex geological structure, overlapping peaks, deep valley, karst development, fragile ecology, and very difficult engineering conditions.

There are 107 bridges, 53 tunnels and 87.4% of bridges and tunnels in Yunnan section. It is necessary to overcome the difficulty of three times of altitude difference between Sichuan Basin and Yunnan Guizhou Plateau. Yiliang tunnel, the longest high-speed railway tunnel in China with a total length of 24.3km, and Zhaotong tunnel with a total length of 10km and 16.3km in Karst Section are to be opened.

The big engine of coordinated development of Urban Agglomerations

Chongqing Kunming high speed railway is located in the core of the western development, with Chongqing and Chengdu as the "dual core" in the north and Kunming as the center in the south, including Qujing, Yuxi and other cities in Central Yunnan.

Chongqing Kunming high speed railway connects Chongqing, the upstream hub of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in the north, enters the economic corridor of the new Eurasian Continental Bridge through Xi'an; connects Kunming, the radiation center facing south Asia and Southeast Asia in China in the south, radiates the Bangladesh China Myanmar India Economic Corridor relying on Kunming; and borders the Yangtze River Economic Belt in the East.

When the Chongqing Kunming high-speed railway came out in the sky and the Fuxing was flying close to the ground, the first line of Chongqing Kunming railway would speed up the connection between Chengdu Chongqing and central Yunnan Urban Agglomeration

It is of great significance to enhance the effective integration of Yunnan, Sichuan and Chongqing pilot free trade zones, promote the economic and social development along the line and tackle poverty alleviation.
