By the end of next year, Lianyungang EMU will reach Shanghai in 3 hours.
On September 20, with the completion of welding of the last section of steel beams, the Shanghai-Tong Yangtze River Bridge closed smoothly and made breakthrough progress in construction. At the end of next year, Lianyungang will connect Yantong and Shanghai-Shanghai Railway through Qingyan Railway, which is expected to reach in about 3 hours.
The Shanghai-Tong Yangtze River Bridge is the channel of Shanghai-Tong Railway. It connects Tongzhou District of Nantong City and Zhangjiagang City of Suzhou City. It is the controlling project of Shanghai-Tong Railway. It is also the common channel of Tongsu-Jiayong Railway and Xitong Expressway. The full length of the bridge is 11072 meters and its main span is 1092 meters. It is the world's longest-span cable-stayed bridge for both highway and railway. It is also the world's first highway and railway bridge with a span of more than 1000 meters.
The upper layer of the bridge is a 6-lane Expressway with a design speed of 100 km per hour, and the lower layer is a 4-lane railway. The design speed of Shanghai-Tong Railway is 200 km per hour, and that of Sujia Intercity Railway is a passenger dedicated line with a design speed of 250 km per hour.
Shanghai-Tong Yangtze River Bridge is an important part of the coastal high-speed rail corridor in the national eight-vertical and eight-horizontal railway network. As a dual-purpose bridge, it undertakes three corridors: national railway, inter-city railway and expressway. After completion, it will link the south to the north in the coastal railway corridor. The National Coastal Railway Passage starts from Dalian in the north, passes through Qingdao, Rizhao, Lianyungang and Yancheng, from Nantong through Shanghai-Tong Railway Bridge across the Yangtze River to Fuzhou and Xiamen, and ends at the Beibuwan of Guangxi, which is about 3000 kilometers long. At the end of next year, Lianyungang will connect the Yantong Railway and Shanghai-Tong Railway through the Qingyan Railway, which is expected to reach Shanghai in about three hours.
