Zhan Tianyou, the father of Chinese Railways
Zhan Tianyou, Han nationality, with the word "Jiacheng" and the name "Dachao". Wuyuan, Huizhou, was born in Nanhai County, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It was located at No. 42 Yacai Lane, Twelve Fuxi Street, Enning Road, Liwan District, Guangzhou. He studied in the United States at the age of 12. In 1878, he was admitted to the Department of civil engineering of Yale University, majoring in railway engineering. He is an expert of modern railway engineering in China and is known as the first chief engineer of railway in China. He was responsible for the construction of Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway and other projects, known as "the father of Chinese Railway" and "the father of Chinese modern engineering". A 6031 a 6031 1905-1909 presided over the construction of Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway, the first railway independently designed and built in China, and created "shaft digging method" and "herringbone" lines. After several years of hard work, the Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway was finally opened to traffic in September 1909. The original plan was completed in six years. As a result, it took only four years to complete the project ahead of schedule. The cost of the project is only one fifth of the value of foreigners, which shocked China and foreign countries.
