Meizhou-Shantou Railway Chaoshan-Shantou Section and Longhu Contact Line officially opened and operated
Today, the Meizhou-Shantou Railway Chaoshan-Shantou section and the Longhu Railway Link are officially opened and operated. The Shantou Railway to Hangzhou-Shenzhen Railway is opened, and the EMU train enters Shantou Station for the first time.
Shantou Station, located in Shantou City, is the terminal of Guangzhou Mei (Zhou) Shantou Railway and a general-speed railway station. It was put into operation in 1995 and originally only parked on general-speed trains. Chaoshan Station, located in the geographical center of Shantou, Chaozhou and Jieyang, is a large high-speed railway station on the Hangzhou-Shenzhen Railway. It was put into operation in 2013. However, due to the distance between Chaoshan Station and Shantou City is about 28 kilometers, the bus connection time for Shantou citizens to travel by EMU is longer.
In order to make it more convenient for the people of Shantou to travel, on the basis of making full use of the transformation of the old railway lines, the railway department has constructed the Chaoshan-Shantou section of the Meishan-Shantou Railway and the Longhu Contact Line, so that the Shantou Railway Station can also be integrated into the high-speed railway network of our country and open the last kilometer for the people of Shantou to travel by EMUs.
In the initial period of operation, Shantou Station operated 3 pairs of EMUs per day (2 pairs from Shantou to Shenzhen North and 1 pair from Shantou to Guangzhou East). On January 5, 2019, after the adjustment of the railway operation plan, Shantou Station will operate 13.5 pairs of EMUs every day (6.5 pairs from Shantou to Guangzhou East, 6.5 pairs from Shantou to Shenzhen North and 0.5 pairs from Guangzhou South to Shantou).
Shantou citizens can get on the EMUs directly to Guangzhou and Shenzhen at their doorsteps, which will save more than one hour of bus connection time in the city, greatly improve the travel conditions of Shantou citizens, and better promote the cooperation and development of Eastern Guangdong region and Shenzhen, Xiamen and Shantou three special economic zones.
