Safety is a heavy burden

"Xiao Liu, the rain is so heavy, we have to observe carefully!" On July 15, at daybreak, Yan Baolin, foreman of bridge work area in new County of Macheng Public Works section, and Liu Shuting, a protective worker, climbed up to qinglongzui in Dabie Mountain Area of Xinxian County, Henan Province against the wind and rain to inspect the grade II flood control and reinforcement works, slope protection and retaining wall, exposed slope and drainage facilities of Beijing Kowloon Railway.
On May 12, with the commencement of the 1041km grade II flood control and reinforcement project along the Beijing Kowloon Railway, Yan Baolin, a Communist Party member, came here to serve as both a supervisor and a patrolman for more than 60 days. Yan Baolin, 54, came to the foot of the Dabie mountains when the Beijing Kowloon line was opened on September 1, 1996, and has been working hard for years in road maintenance.
The flood control and reinforcement project on qinglongzui will be completed by the end of July by installing 220 meters of hard isolation, clearing 3000 cubic meters of floating soil, and drilling 60 20 meter deep holes in the area of more than 3600 square meters. This is the most difficult construction, the longest construction period and the most safety risks in this section of pipeline construction. The mountain is high, the road is far, and the conditions are hard. After receiving the task, Yan Baolin did not say a word, carrying his luggage to live in the mountains.
On sunny days, Yan Baolin came to the construction site at 5:30 every day to check the power line, distribution box, DTH Drill, wire rope and other machines and tools. At 19:00 p.m., smoke from cooking in the village at the foot of the mountain was curling, and other workers were evacuating the construction site. Yan Baolin tied up the safety belt and put on the safety helmet. He went up to each construction point 30 meters high from the line to check the construction quality. After ensuring safety, he walked back to the station on the dark mountain road.
"On rainy days, I'm the patrolman. The more rain, the more frequent the patrol." Yan Baolin said. According to the itinerary map, they had to cross two railway culverts, a section of pine forest, and climb a steep hillside, which lasted more than 3 kilometers. During the inspection, it is common to encounter snakes and poisonous insects, and the operators have been chased by mountain bees.
One night in July, the wind was strong and the rain was torrential. The headlights flickered and Yan Baolin and Liu Shuting inspected in the rain. In the wind and rain, they can only hobble forward by feeling deep and shallow. Climbing the hillside less than 500 meters long, their faces were almost close to the steps. It took them an hour to climb and stop. They did not care about the rain, and began to patrol. When they found that the gutter on Qinglong's mouth was blocked by heavy rain, they jumped into the ditch without hesitation to clean up the weeds and branches and eliminate the danger in time. That night, they made six rounds in the rain, walked more than 20 kilometers, and stayed up all night.
Every time Yan Baolin climbs up to qinglongzui and sees a train like a long dragon passing by safely at the foot of the mountain, he will warn himself that the burden of ensuring the safety of the railway in flood season is heavy. He should be like the tall and straight pine on Qinglong's mouth and watch the safety and smooth passage of the main artery of Beijing Kowloon Railway.
