at the beginning of the party class, Secretary Wang gave a detailed introduction to Comrade Bai Qiuen's life. Norman Bethune was born in 1890 in greyhurst, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from the medical school of the University of Toronto with a bachelor's degree in 1916. In 1935, he was elected member and director of American Thoracic Surgery Society. His thoracic surgery is well-known in Canada, Britain and the United States. Bethune joined the Communist Party of Canada in 1935 and volunteered to go to Spain in the winter of 1936 to participate in the anti fascist struggle. After the outbreak of China's Anti Japanese War, in order to help the liberation of the Chinese people, in March 1938, he was dispatched by the Communist Party of Canada and the Communist Party of the United States, and led a medical team composed of Canadians and Americans to Yan'an. During his work in Yan'an, he trained a large number of medical cadres, compiled a number of field medical textbooks and gave lectures in person. In the most difficult war environment, he refused the party organization's care for his life and repeatedly asked Chairman Mao to go to the front line of the war for medical activities. Bethune, who was nearly 50 years old, transfused the wounded for many times, and operated on 115 wounded for 69 hours at a time. In October 1939, Bethune died in huangshikou village, Tangxian County, Hebei Province in the early hours of November 12, because his left middle finger was cut by a scalpel when he was rescuing the wounded in the battle of Motianling, Laiyuan County, Hebei Province. The last sentence he said before his death was: "work hard! To the great road, to open up the cause ahead! "
