Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotive is the first locomotive of the second generation diesel locomotive in China. It is also the first AC-DC electric drive diesel locomotive designed and developed in China. It was trial-produced by Dalian Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works in 1969. After continuous improvement, Dongfeng 4 0001 diesel locomotive was officially launched in 1973.
The Birth of Dongfeng 4 Locomotive
In 1963, China began to manufacture the first generation of diesel locomotives. In 1974, Dongfeng 4 locomotives officially went out of the factory, marking the debut of a new generation of diesel locomotives in China. After the Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotive is out of factory, it is attached to the locomotive depot and used for towing freight cars.
The Story of "Dongfeng" and the Women's Baggage Group of March Eighth
In 1976, the Fengtai locomotive depot was set up. The first batch of 8 women workers in the 38 women's ride group became flight attendants, driving the Dongfeng 4 diesel locomotive 0001 and running on the important freight lines of the motherland.
In those days, train drivers not only had to drive, but also knew how to repair and maintain, and even had to complete the whole train's inspection by themselves. They were proficient in eighteen kinds of martial arts. Hundreds of parts and thousands of circuit junctions on diesel locomotives must be remembered. When the locomotive circuit breaks down, it has to be repaired.
Despite the hard work, the girls are happy to do it. In their opinion, it is a proud thing to drive a train.
During nearly 30 years of operation, Dongfeng 4 0001 diesel locomotive has traveled 2.23 million kilometers safely. In 2002, it was collected as a cultural relic and settled in the China Railway Museum.
