Hefei Railway Station Address: Yaohai District Station Front Road, Hefei City
Hefei is an ancient city with a history of more than 2000 years. It is known at home and abroad as "the hometown of the Three Kingdoms, Bao Zheng's hometown". Since the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Hefei has been an important administrative center and military town in the Jianghuai region.
Hefei is known as "Huaiyou right breast throat, Jiangnan lip and teeth" and its traffic location is very important. Hefei Railway Station was built in 1935 and completed in April 1936. With the opening of the Huainan-Yuxikou Railway in that year, it began to operate. It is a small station on the Huainan-Yuxikou Railway. The station only has a coal loading and unloading line with an effective length of 192 meters.
In October 1937, in order to meet the needs of the Anti-Japanese War, the Huainan Line was destroyed and the Hefei Station was closed. In 1942, the Japanese invaders repaired the railway from Shuijiahu to Hefei, and the Hefei Station was renamed Lujiangyi. In 1944, the Japanese army dismantled the railway from Shuijiahu to Yuxikou, and the Hefei Station was closed again. In September 1948, Hefei Station opened again, barely handling passenger and freight transport business.
After the founding of New China, in 1952, Hefei became the capital of Anhui Province, with a growing urban population, rapid expansion of the city scale, small old railway stations and overcrowded waiting people, which could not meet the needs of urban development.
In 1977, in the process of compiling Hefei's urban master plan, it was planned to move Hefei's original railway stations and railways out of the city to solve the problem of railway dividing the city. In 1982, the State Council approved the general plan of Hefei City. In 1989, the Ministry of Railways issued the document "Approval of the Scheme for Changing the Site of Hefei Railway Station". Hefei Railway Hub and Hefei New Passenger Station were also included in the national plan. However, due to the construction fund problem, the start of construction project was delayed.
The Hefei New Passenger Station started construction in June 1994 and was completed at the end of 1995. It has increased the number of lanes, built a new lead-out line, waiting room, ticket office, baggage room, platform canopy, and expanded the cargo yard and warehouse. At this time, Hefei Station has developed into a first-class passenger and freight station.
On April 1, 1997, Hefei New Passenger Station was opened to traffic. The main station was pyramid-shaped with blue glass doors and windows, just like a pearl inlaid in the east of Hefei City.
The total area of the new passenger station is 33182 square meters. The main station is divided into two floors. Eight waiting halls are equipped with central air conditioning, which can accommodate 5000 passengers at the same time. The booking hall uses a computer to sell tickets. The maximum daily traffic volume in the luggage room is nearly 3000 pieces. The station has a passenger-oriented and multimedia inquiry system, which makes waiting and landing more convenient for passengers. There are 27.5 pairs of trains at the station every day. In 2005, 5.61 million passengers and 1.85 million tons of cargo were delivered by the station.
Unlike many urban railway stations, the construction of Hefei's new passenger station was initially linked to the "new urban area". To this end, the Hefei Municipal Government has specially established the Hefei New Railway Station Construction Zone. In April 1995, the construction area was upgraded to the comprehensive development pilot area of New Hefei Station, and was approved by the Ministry of Construction as the national pilot area of comprehensive urban development in February 1996.
A new urban area has been set up for the new station, which shows that Hefei Station has played an important role in changing the appearance of the city. Hefei Station has become a new coordinate of urban development, which is recorded in the historical archives of Hefei's urban development and changes.
The Summary of the Talks between the Ministry of Railways and the People's Government of Anhui Province on the Issues Relating to the Eleventh Five-Year Plan of Railway Construction in Anhui Province has drawn a new blueprint for the future development of Hefei's railways: to build a railway hub centered on Hefei City, to establish the important railway hub position of Hefei connecting the eastern part with the central and Western parts, and from Nanjing to Hefei. Railway corridors from Hefei to Wuhan will meet Hefei. At that time, Hefei Station will leave a brilliant new page in the historical archives of the construction of Hefei City.
